"But right now, you and me here, put together entirely of atoms, sitting on this round rock with a core of liquid iron, held down by this force that seems to trouble you, called gravity, all the while spinning around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour and whizzing through the milkyway at 600,000 miles an hour in a universe that very well may be chasing its own tail at the speed of light; And admist all this frantic activity, fully cognisant of our own eminent demise - which is our own pretty way of saying we all know we're gonna die - We reach out to one another. Sometimes for the sake of vanity, sometimes for reasons you're not old enough to understand yet, but a lot of the time we just reach out and expect nothing in return. Isn't that strange? Isn't that weird? Isn't that weird enough?"

Loving Eachother

How do we create a multi-cultural society that has social cohesion and pluralistic respect? For me the answer lies right here in the very room where I sit typing. In front of me I have my grandmother’s beautiful crucifix hanging on the wall. Directly next to it are some hand carved wooden Tibetan Buddhist prayer beads. To my right I see a plaque with a picture of Jesus Christ on it and this picture is held up by a statue of Buddha. To my left is my bookshelf. In the middle row of my bookshelf the titles of these books flow together perfectly; they are the Holy Bible, The Origin of the Species, Tao Te Ching, The Essential Rumi, the Kabbalah, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bhadavad-Gita, The Way of a Pilgrim, Living Wicca, The Hindu Religious Tradition, Llewellyn’s Magical Guide, The Secrets of the Rosary, and The Tao of Pooh. Behind me there is a mirror. When I turn my head and look in this mirror I can see my back. In the center of my shoulder blades there is a divine tattoo of a Hindu Goddess. This tattoo is on my back and I am not a Hindu. I am not any of the religions that are displayed around me. But I love, respect, and honor all of them as if they were my own.

Heat

The moment that
I walked into your suite

I believed in the
Kinetic theory of heat

The passion rose
to an unbearable temperature

And I knew that
this was an unexplained creature

In all of the moments
of our short and immensely long lives

You know that this kind
of clarity almost never arrives…..

And now,

feeling this and knowing that
I’ve realized that
I must be dreaming

But in my last few moments
before sadly waking
I take the kiss that is redeeming
